The sensation of accompanying a Reality Show
of that load, with the whole available technology is of fundamental
importance for us to notice the amount of information that will
"be bombed", not only through the producing broadcasting
station, in the case GLOBO TV, as the others that unceasingly
will accompany closely to generate matters inside of their programs,
besides the computer science users that have at disposal the videos
- covering originating from the program through Internet. I am
not an assiduous viewer, but, once in a while, when of the interest
and of the situation that they come the events, I appreciate watching
candidates' acting, mainly on the cultural side, not that it is
necessarily considered intellectual, in way any, but to simply
appreciate the way of each one’s every-day being, to the
way they speak, it is very interesting to add all this to my "counter-information."
We know, however, that the communication means influence in a
lot over the less fortunate people's culture values, faiths and
behaviors and that most of the time the own television media submits
them to a brainwashing process that turns them as characters,
lived in the screen, giving the false illusion that they are free
to choose whatever they want or whatever they think about.
For the more caretakers, the solitaries, the television is a complement
that can bring a comfortable company sensation and intimacy with
the participants of the anything else, anything minus, and already
famous television program that arrives to its sixth version, Big
Brother Brazil, and that a paraense citizen has a chance as participant,
what will make our population with right the supporter and something
plus, to be definitively attempts all of the youth's movements
that this will start to represent, very soon, with a star, or,
who knows, as a celebrity.
It is very gratifying for us to have a representative genuinely
parauara, in the case psychologist Thais Macedo, in that great
"game", because, we know that her presence by itself
is a reason of free propaganda already constituted for the State
of Pará, regarding to our history, culture and tourism,
what opportunely exalts us deeply, knowing that such information
will be taken to the most distant places of the country and of
the world.
The mass communication is in the reality capable to interfere
in the subjective life, in the social relationships, and in the
reality, in the viewers' life, because it informs and it amuses
millions of Brazilians that a lot of times change their behavior.
There is not as denying that with the coming from television,
the speed of the information through the time, between soap operas
and auditorium programs, where prejudices are questioned and behaviors
a little ethical are denounced, is an influence that it can be
evidently positive. On the other hand, we cannot forget that,
no rare, the characters of that magnificent program, without a
doubt, in a recent future, they will play parts of models for
us to exhibit products of the most several, that it varies from
the hygiene to the drink, could arrive until the fashion, or even
the culture.
The question is in the air: after the end of each program - Big
Brother - whichever is the version going on, will the participants
be free and capable of having own opinions without being guided
by the communication means? Or will it be only an illusion of
freedom, last to the viewer so that believes that they are free
to choose, since they are confined to a system of values that
is imposed during the whole time they stay at the house.
When writing the book, in 1984, in which it appeared omnipresent
Big Brother for the first time, George Orwell alerted for the
danger of being walking to a totalitarian society. In that immeasurable
fiction, the Big Brother watched the whole society through cameras
and microphones, 24 hours a day, reducing to the maximum the exercise
of their inhabitants' individual freedom. In spite of that not
being very clear for most of the people, that’s what it
is happening to us right now through the loss of essential values
of life in exchange for the consumption values. Today, the reality
is not very different, when in some cities of Brazil, besides
in Belém, we are observed by cameras, a lot of times, even
indiscreet. Then, gradually, thanks to that brainwash, are not
we losing the individual freedom of thinking, to feel?
But it was in Holland, in the year of 1999, that the program Big
Brother reality show appeared created by Endemol, one of the companies
of entertainment of Europe, with the objective of taking the public
to an interaction every time larger with their participants, everything
apparently inspired in the itinerary of the book of authorship
of George Orwell. As we know, Big Brother is a game that mixes
temperament individuals and different social and cultural level
in a same scenery, preferably people that possess a beautiful
face and a slender body, sometimes with vacancies for some less
fortunate, financial ones and intellectually, that they should
live together at a house during two months, day and night, under
the surveillance of cameras and dispersed microphones in all of
the spaces in that they are moved.
Did we denote that, then, how can we have freedom and autonomy
when we are confined in a system of values that is to us imposed?
Let us see, if we got dressed in the same way - to that we called
fashion - and it is criticized who doesn't get dressed like us;
if we consumed the same products; we looked for status, money,
comfort and fame; if, actually, did we think and did we want the
same things, where are the differences?
Jurandir Freire in his book, "Violence and Psychoanalysis",
affirms that in each historical context the society forms an ordinary
psychological type, in response to the needs in the moment. Nothing
else than the globalization of emotional particularities previously
defined as normal. Such a process ends up resulting in a symbolic
violence, once it is imposed the person the reality that she should
adopt as exclusive referential for her orientation in the world.
It is; therefore, through the ideological intimidation that it
is reached the people's adaptation, which facilitates the social
control.
When accepting that standardization the individual cloister subjectivity
inside of herself, starting to show what it is waited or what
it is desired for her. In other words, she begins to live an appearance
and, the more it is adjusted her, the less she understands the
desires, feelings and the own existence; gradually, loses conscience
about who she really is. Like this, in a world with so many information,
noises and appeals, life is going describing direction: nobody
else has time for anything, mainly to take conscience in fact
on what it is happening around her.
Modernly the fantastic technological apparatus in the group to
have faith that we are closer some of the other ones, however,
we are more and more entangled in the individualism, in the superficiality
and in the competition, that ends for resulting in the violence.
To flee of that process, without a doubt, it is not task of the
easiest. The first step in that sense maybe is to determine of
what type a person wants to be, and what basic values did want
to orientate her life?
To contain, I ask the readers for permission to paraphrasing Jurandir
Freire saying that "the last word on the validity of this
purpose" will be without a doubt of the reader and of the
viewer. But, as Bial says “you already belong the house
and can take one more look."
